The Great American Road Trip 2021

Day 38: Yardley, PA to Stony Brook, NY to Petersham, MA

Up this morning early at the hotel — somebody down the hall had released their children into the hallway to play, perhaps so they could sleep some more. (Grrrrr!)

Raining again, so slogged through it to get the car in the waaaaay-over-there parking lot and to come pick up dad. Good thing: got a luggage cart right away and the portico was clear, so I could load up the car in the dry and dad could just step out the door and into the passenger side. Stopped briefly at Matt and Jill’s to say goodbye and wish them farewell on their trip to Alaska, then headed for I-95.

Rained all the way to Long Island — thank goodness we had the GPS set for Dylan’s house or I never would have managed the tunnels, bridges, and construction detour through Manhattan. Another thing to be thankful for: it’s Sunday, so the traffic is “light.” <smiley face>

Dylan and Warner’s house is lovely, a two-story with brick facing and nice yards in front and back. Lexi the Golden retriever is living with them now, and seems very happy. Tibby the cat is currently living with Rich, but may eventually come to live with Dylan, if Warner’s allergies prove up to the challenge.

Unfortunately, they don’t have any floors upstairs, so we couldn’t spend the night here, so we took the Grand Republic, a car ferry from Port Jefferson, New York to Bridgeport, CT. Dad slept in the car while I explored the ferry and then I drove to Petersham to dad’s house. Whew! I believe I’ll unload the car tomorrow.

Good night, all — hope everyone sleeps well.
